Impulse buys. Flashy trends. Cheap fabrics. We’ve all fallen for it. You spend all your hard earned money on a bunch of clothes that you promise you will wear next season.
I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to my wardrobe only to realise that I didn’t like half of what was in there. One day, I came across an idea that shifted that mindset. Suddenly, putting outfits together became less stressful, my wardrobe became less cluttered, and my wallet stopped feeling so empty.
Here’s the rule that changed everything for me:
If you won’t wear it 30 times, don’t buy it.

3 Other Questions To Ask
In addition to this simple rule, there are 3 questions you can ponder each time you pick up a new jacket or shirt and think that it would be a great addition to your wardrobe.
Ask yourself:
- Does it go with what I already own?
- Does it fit me right now?
- Will it still look good in a year?
If the answer is no, leave it. No second guessing.
“Maybe I’ll wear it next year in summer…”
“Maybe I can take that on holiday…”
“If I changed my body slightly, that would really suit me…”
Enough of that, if you won’t wear it now, then don’t buy it.
Benefits of the 30 Wear Rule
This simple mindset shift will:
- Save you money
- Declutter your wardrobe
- Help you find your real style
On top of that, you will find confidence knowing that every time you open your wardrobe, all you clothes fit and suit you, right now, and for the future.
Going Forward
So, going forward, when you find yourself facing a sale rail, wondering if you should spend more money on a new outfit… Ask yourself, “Do I really need this?”
Apply the 30 Wear Rule, and ask the important 3 questions. You’ll find your answer.
